Thomas County Central hosts cross country event

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central hosted their cross country event, the Yellow Jacket Invitational, on Thursday at Thomas County Middle School. Cross country teams from all over Georgia and Florida showed up to compete, including Thomasville High School and Brookwood. The schools from the city of Thomasville did not disappoint their fans.
The middle school boys kicked off the competition and Thomasville was on the board quickly. Seven of the top ten finishers were from Thomasville schools.
Thomas County Middle School’s Holten Dennard finished second while Connor Stephens took third. Behind them was MacIntyre Park Middle School who took the most spots in the top ten of any school. Eighth graders Conner D’amico finished fourth, Jack Chastain took fifth, and Mason Baggett slotted in at seventh. Seventh grader Luke Ridley took eighth.
Overall, it was a one-two finish for the Rose City as MacIntyre Park’s boys team took first and TCMS finished second.
On the girls side, seventh grader Gracie Musgrove made the Warriors proud with a third place finish and MPMS eighth grader Sadie Kate Scarbrough finished fourth.
As the high school event began, Central junior Cadence Curnalia quite literally ran away with the girls competition. She finished first in the race with a blazing time of 21:35:30. Her final time clocked in a minute and 33 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
The rest of the Yellow Jackets girls team did well in the race with two girls who finished in the top 25, Sophomore Riley Ambrose (21) and freshman Emma Grace Vealey (22). Brookwood junior Abby Stavley also finished in the top 25 coming in at 24.
The Thomas County Central girls team took second overall, finishing behind Lee County.
Brookwood was the top school in Thomasville on the high school boys side with a pair of finishers in the top 15. Warrior freshman Wesley Warren finished 14 and junior Kent Grayson took the 15 spot.
Just behind them was Yellow Jacket sophomore Johnny Bradshaw at 19.
The Warriors boys team took fourth overall while Thomasville High School and Thomas County Central took sixth and seventh respectively.
