A NEW HOME: Southside Station houses Thomas County Emergency Services as well as firefighters. They are located on 5340 US 319 South.

THOMASVILLE- The Thomas County Board of Commissioners held an open house ceremony on Saturday morning to officially open the new Southside Fire Station.

The new station houses an ambulance, a Pierce pumper and a tanker for transporting water. It is staffed by four Emergency Services employees, medics and firefighters, providing emergency response seven days a week.

The station is a welcome addition to the area, which will serve the southern area of Thomas County.

“The most important thing about this station is that it is centrally located,” County Manager Mike Stephenson said. “It will respond to calls from Hwy. 319 down to the Grady County line and all the way up to Metcalfe.”

Stephenson thanked everyone who played a role in making the Southside Station possible, especially Thomasville Fire Rescue, who has allowed Thomas County Fire Rescue to co-exist out of the Thomasville’s Fire Station #2 for quite some time.

Stephenson explained the history of the station, sharing that it has been providing service to south Thomas County for nearly 15 years, first operating out of the old Magnolia School Buildings, before eventually relocating.

The Commissioners, along with personnel were excited to share their new building and continued mission of providing safety and emergency response to the community on Saturday.

The open house welcomed residents from the surrounding neighborhood, employees and veterans, who conducted a flag-raising ceremony to officially open the new building for operation.

Southside Station is housed at 5340 US 319 South and was constructed at a cost of $900,000 through the funding of the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
