THOMASVILLE- The City of Thomasville is inviting the public to a community input session on Thursday afternoon at City Council chambers.

The input session will be in regard to the Mobile Food Service Unit Ordinance.

According to Mollie Powell, Planning and Zoning Administrator, mobile food units are currently only allowed at city-sponsored events. When Powell and her team posted a notice that they would be putting out an ordinance regarding these mobile food units, she received multiple emails from the public wanting more information.

She and her team then decided to host a workshop, allowing for the public to share what they would like to see when it comes to food trucks.

“We want to know if the public wants food trucks on private property, public property or at right of ways,” Powell said. “These are all things we hope to hear from them.”

Powell hopes the public will attend the input session, which is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Powell said once the workshop/listening session is over, they can begin work on drafting an ordinance that suits the needs of all parties.

She said drafting an ordinance doesn’t take too terribly long, but it will all depend on the feedback they receive Thursday night. The more rules and regulations surrounding the food trucks, the longer the ordinance may take.

However, Powell’s ultimate goal is to have an ordinance on the books within the next 3-4 months, allowing individuals to utilize food trucks, if they so wish, for holiday parties and get togethers.
