Open House Days announced for Grady County Schools

Grady County Schools has announced Open House Days for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Washington Middle School Open House will be Tuesday, August 1st from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; Whigham School August 2nd from 2-4 p.m., Shiver School on Wednesday, August 2nd from 11 a.m.-noon and 1-2 p.m.; Northside Elementary on Wednesday, August 2nd from 1-3 p.m.; Eastside Elementary on August 1st from 10 a.m. -noon for last names A-M and 1:30-3:30 p.m. for last names N-Z; Southside Elementary on August 2nd with mandatory Pre-K at 12:30 p.m. and K-5 from 1-3 p.m. and Cairo High School on August 28th from 6-7 p.m.

Tabernacle Baptist to have Homecoming on August 6th

Everyone is invited to the 52nd anniversary Homecoming Celebration at Tabernacle Baptist Church on US 84 East in Cairo. The special event will be held Sunday August 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Austin Elkins preaching. Dinner on the grounds to follow the morning service.

Grady Getdown to feature Ralph Roddenbery

The next Grady Getdown Outdoor Concert Series will be held on August 5th and will feature Grady County native Ralph Roddenbery as the guest musician. Admission is free with music starting at 6 p.m. in Downtown Cairo.

Women’s Day Program to be held August 7th at Greater New Corinth Church

The women of the Greater New Corinth Missionary Baptist Church invite the community to their annual Women’s Day program to be held on Sunday, August 7th at 11:15 a.m. The guest speaker for the event will be Evangelist Priscilla McGriff.

50s & 60s Sock Hop to benefit Zebulon Theater

The Zebulon Theater is sponsoring a 50s and 60s Sock Hop on August 19th at the Grady Cultural Center. There will be a live DJ at 6:30 p.m. followed by a live band at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $45 per individual which includes burgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks. VBS coming July 24-28 to Moore’s Temple

The annual Vacation Bible School will be held July 24-28th at Moore’s Temple First Born Church from 5-6:30 p.m. each evening. Classes will be available for preschool to adults. For more information, contact Sister Marie Hayward at 229-289-2133.

Library seeking Part-Time Janitor

The Roddenbery Memorial Library is currently seeking a part-time janitor to perform cleaning duties at the library. The job will be for 15-18 hours a week, Monday-Friday mornings. If interested, visit the library or complete the application at www.rmlibrary.org/employment/

Back-2-School Blitz coming this Saturday

Grady County Family Connection and the Grady County Schools are hosting and already planning the Back-2- School Blitz for our Grady County students on July 29th, 9-11 a.m. It will be held at the Cairo High School Gymnasium. Vendor organizations and businesses will be providing free school supplies and providing information about extracurricular activities available for children and youth during the coming school year. Sponsorships now available for Murder Mystery Theater to benefit Thomas University

Thomas University will be hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater show to benefit scholarships for students in Grady County on October 5th at the Collins Place Venue. Trip to Braves Game planned

The United National Bank Travel Club is planning a trip to see the Atlanta Braves play the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 2nd and sports fans from the community are invited to attend. The bus will depart the bank at 7 a.m. for the game which starts at 12:05 p.m. The cost is $175 per person. To make reservations, call 377-7200.

Learn to Squaredance at the Library

The Roddenbery Memorial Library invites everyone to come enjoy square dancing on Friday nights at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Both experienced dancers and beginners are invited.

Grady County still seeking Bus Drivers

The Grady County Schools Transportation Department is currently seeking bus drivers. These are part time jobs with responsibilities in the mornings and afternoons. All employees will be provided the necessary training to obtain a CDL and insurance benefits. You must have a high school diploma, love children and be able to drive both mornings before school and afternoons after school. If interested, contact Adrienne Cruel at 377-2124.

Senior Exercise Class meets at the Library

There is a free Seniors Exercise Class that now meets at the Roddenbery Memorial Library on Mondays at 9 a.m. in the Grady Room. All area seniors are invited to attend.
