- FOLLOW MY LEAD: The choreographer of a portion of the stand dance leads the other Dazzlers during practice.
THOMASVILLE- The Thomas County Central Dazzlers took part in a 3-day workshop this past week, where they learned the choreography for this season’s performances and stand dances.
The theme for this year’s halftime performance is Rhapsody in Blue and Gold.
“It’s centered around the theme of Rhapsody in Blue, which is a very big theatrical song,” said Dazzlers sponsor Anne Marie Holland. “It will run throughout the show with different jazz songs in it, such as “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “In the Mood.” It will be a really fun jazz-based performance this year.”
The jazz-based performance will include new props and high-spirited choreography, something Holland said the team has been hard at work on.
“It has been really collaborative,” she said. “Everyone is working really hard to get all the moves down, because we are learning a lot of new dances and we have a good bit of new people this year.”
Holland traditionally allows the Dazzlers to choreograph their own stand dance, while she works to perfect the halftime performance.
Fans in the stand can look forward to fun, new props during the halftime performance, according to Holland.
“We will have big flags and swing flags we will use throughout the performance,” she said.
Captain and co- captain, Jenna Coaker and Sarah Stouffer said they are excited about incorporating the props into their routines and have enjoyed helping the new members execute the choreography.
“Being with the new girls and seeing all the new styles has been one of the most fun parts of this experience,” Coaker said. “They’ve already done so great and we are so proud of them.”
Stouffer agreed, stating how much she has enjoyed meeting some of the younger members of the team.
“We are much more unified than we were in the past,” she said. “We all have a group understanding and a goal.”
Coaker said she sees this unification as a way to make memories and leave the younger members of the Dazzlers with a legacy they can carry on for years to come.
Stouffer is thrilled to have such an amazing group to carry on the Dazzler name.
“This year we have 20 people, where our freshman year there was only nine of us,” she said.
Stouffer promised the large group brings even more entertainment and energy to the crowd, encouraging everyone to come out and support the Dazzlers at the first home game this season.
