THOMASVILLE- This Friday, the Thomasville Police Department will set up a safety expo for their annual Safe-T-Ville program at Scott Elementary School from 9 a.m. until noon.
Corporal Crystal Parker said that Safe-T-Ville is a program for younger audiences, with this year’s program being comprised of numerous different stations for children to peruse.
“So, Safe-T-Ville is a program for our younger audience, so we’re talking elementary school age, Pre-K and up, younger than that probably won’t get much out of it,” Parker said. “Basically, this year we’re doing it as a sort of safety expo, we’re going to have different stations set up.”
According to Parker, these stations will be manned by the many different departments in Thomasville, from law enforcement to utilities to teach children safety.
“We’re going to have representatives from the police department to talk about gun safety, traffic safety, we’ll have people from the electric department to talk about electricity safety at their station, we’ll have the YMCA out there talking about water safety,” she said. “Really we just have a bunch of our local area departments coming together, everybody having their own station, so the parents can lead their kids through and cover the topics they’re interested in or the ones most pertinent to their lifestyle.”
The departments involved also include the sheriff’s department, the fire department and other city and county departments that will be sharing their personal expertise for the children.
Parker added that the expo was a free experience with no reservation needed and that there would be special mascot guests at the event, such as Sparky the Fire Dog.
“Feel free to drop in whenever you like,” she said. “We’ll all just come together and have a good time and cover some important safety topics.”
She added that she hoped that local families would take the opportunity to enjoy the relaxed and informative experience they would be putting on this Friday.
“We just hope people come and take the opportunity to come out and have a relaxed atmosphere and opportunity for their kids to come and meet all our different first responders and learn about the different safety topics and how they operate,” she said.
