BACK ON THE GRID: Crews from Covington, Ga. traveled to Thomasville to help restore the near 10,000 outages reported from Thursday night storms.

THOMASVILLE —The City of Thomasville is making progress in recovering from recent weather, with most roadways cleared and efforts being made to fix all outages.

Public Information Manager Christy Owens said that at the peak of the storm, they had over 10,000 customers that were without power, but they were looking much better as of noon on Friday.

“At the peak of the storm, we had over 10,000 customers that were out of power,” she said. “As of just a little while ago, we are down to about 600 customers. We also have crews here from Covington, Ga., LaGrange, Ga., and Griffin, Ga. to help with getting everyone back online by the end of the day, today.”

Although there has not been a total count of fallen trees, Owens said that there was a lot of debris on the roads, with utility poles even going down.

“We had a lot of fallen trees and limbs, we also had about 12 to 15 utility poles that were snapped, and then we also had wind damage,” she said. “The combination of all those things certainly contributed to how many customers were without service.”

Owens said that the storm had been compared to the damage seen after Tropical Storm Irma

“I think, compared to Tropical Storm Irma, it was similar damage to that, according to a member of our utility staff,” she said. “We have almost all the trees cleared off the roadways at this point now.”

Owens said that they are working hard to have everything fixed, having initially focused on larger areas of outages, but now focusing on smaller pockets still having issues.

“We are making a lot of progress in getting everybody back up again,” she said.
