THOMASVILLE— Thomasville City Schools Board of Education announced its Teachers of the Year for 2023. Among the teachers recognized were Brittany Gainous of Scott Elementary School, Glynn Peace of Harper Elementary School, Lisa Singletary of Jerger Elementary School, Billye Young of Macintyre Park Middle School, Rebecca Nicolay of Scholars Academy and Sarah Connery of Thomasville High School.

“Thomasville City Schools is honored by the service of all our teachers. They’re the heart of what we do and the reason our students succeed,” said Board Chair Kejar Butler. “Our school system has a long history of outstanding performance in Academics, Arts and Athletics. When you get to know the educators, you won’t find more committed teachers and administrators. It’s amazing. We identified literacy as an important initiative years ago, and have seen remarkable achievements there. STEAM is important to us as are AP classes and public/private partnerships with industries in Thomasville. It’s all a part of providing opportunity to students, whether they choose college, a trade school or a career track. Our teachers are at the center of our mission”

“As Director of Student Services and now as interim superintendent, I can’t tell you how amazed I am by the great educators in our community,” said Dr. McBride. “A teacher’s presence has a lifelong impact on a child. Most people still remember their favorite teacher’s name. We’re proud to recognize these individual educators who represent our whole system of teachers so well.”

The Thomasville City Schools system-wide “Teacher of the Year” will be announced in May.
