David Sofferin appointed Executive Director for The Vashti Center, Inc.

THOMASVILL — The Vashti Center Board of Directors Chairperson James A. Bue announced the appointment of David Sofferin as the new Executive of The Vashti Center effective May 1, 2023.

Sofferin comes to The Vashti Center from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) where he served as the Director of Public Affairs. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the South Georgia Community Service Board/Behavioral Health Services of South Georgia. In addition, Sofferin served as the Acting Director of Regional Operations, Regional Coordinator, and Administrator of Southwestern State Hospital/Bainbridge State Hospital for the Georgia Department of Human Resources and DBHDD. He also served as the Assistant Secretary for Substance Abuse and Mental Health for The Florida Department of Children and Families.

“David’s depth of experience in behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disabilities will provide Vashti with an incredible amount of knowledge and hands-on experience,” Bue said. “Sofferin is just the leader we were looking for as we begin the next growth phase for The Vashti Center. He will hit the ground running to develop and implement an exciting campus plan which will be a hub for behavioral health services and training.”

Sofferin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The Florida State University and a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of West Florida in Pensacola.

He resides in Thomasville with his wife Susan. Sofferin also has 4 adult children, a son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren.
