After entering an executive session to discuss personnel, Vice-Chair Britney Glass made the motion to approve the appointment, with board member Dr. Hazel Jones seconding the motion.

The motion passed unanimously amongst the board members.

Board Chair Kejar Butler said that McBride was a long-time member of the school district and had served in numerous positions.

“She’s the current director of student services,” she said. “She’s also been a teacher, an assistant principal, a principal, all within our city school system.”

Interim Superintendent McBride has 26 years of experience in education and is a mother and an alumni of Thomasville City Schools.

“I’m a mother, I’m a long diehard fan and alumni of Thomasville City Schools,” she said. “I graduated from here in ’91 and I came back to make sure I added to my community.”

Afterward, Kimberly NeSmith, chief financial officer, came to the board asking for approval to provide reimbursement for personal property lost in the fire that damaged Scott Elementary School in June 2022.

“We took that spreadsheet to Mr. Espy, as to work with the teachers whose areas were damaged and who had lost personal items, and they came back,” she said. “There are 17 employees who are claiming losses, and as you can see, that total is $38,797.62.”

After reviewing the information, Glass made a motion to approve the reimbursement with board member Russell Beckham seconding the motion. The vote was unanimously approved.

A called meeting has been scheduled for March 7 at 4 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room.
