- Model Ts in all colors could be seen riding around Downtown on Wednesday.
THOMASVILLE- Model T and Model A vehicles could be seen tooting their horns all around the downtown streets on Wednesday, as over 40 plus vehicles toured the town.
Garet and Debra Eich of St. Petersburg, Florida were one of the couples in attendance.
The Eichs explained they received a notification that a tour of Model T and Model A vehicles was going to be held, so they sent in an application for their 1911 Model T.
Once the couple and their vehicle were chosen for the tour, they hauled their model T down, before perusing the streets of Downtown Thomasville, beginning last Monday.
Debra said on Monday they visited the Thomasville Airport and Pope’s Museum, before the tour took them to Cairo on Tuesday, where they visited the Gin Creek Winery.
On Wednesday, the tour returned to Thomasville for lunch and shopping downtown before a visit to Pebble Hill Plantation.
“What is great about these groups coming to Thomasville is the economic boost they give our community and the surrounding cities,” said Bonnie Hayes, Director of Tourism Development. “They are visiting locations like Pebble Hill and the Thomasville History Center, but then they spend time dining and shopping downtown, and really all over the city, not to mention staying in our hotels. It’s a great opportunity to share something positive.”
Debra said the schedule had them traveling to Nashville, Ga. on Thursday, where they would visit a restoration garage and Horse Creek Winery.
The Eichs are no stranger to Model T tours.
According to Debra, the couple has been touring since 2005, traveling all over the United States with their four vehicles.
While they were spotted with their oldest in the fleet on Wednesday, the couple also owns a 1929 two-door Model T, a 1931 Cabaret and a 1939 v-8 Cabaret.
“We’ve been out to California, New York, New Hampshire, everywhere,” she said.
While the vehicles are hauled to their final destination, once there the Eichs take them out on the open road.
“We are traveling about 100 miles a day on this tour,” Garet said. “It’s a lot of fun, each of the communities you go to are so nice.”
Debra agreed, concluding that the tours allow them to see the United States and be a part of many unique communities
