Three Thomas County Central High School musicians earned places in the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Band. These youth include Taylor Johnson, Dylan Thompson and Tyler Laidman. Johnson is fourth chair baritone for Concert Band 1; Thompson is third chair French horn for Concert Band 1; Laidman is second chair baritone for Symphonic Band 1.
First-round auditions occurred Dec. 10, 2022, at Lee County High School, and qualifying students participated in round two at Union Grove High School in McDonough on Jan. 7. Auditions involved playing major scales in all keys, prepared pieces of lyrical and technical music, and sight reading.
“All-state band consists of only the very best high school musicians from all around Georgia,” TCCHS Bands Director Joe Regina said. “I am extremely pleased that we have three students selected this year. They have all put in a tremendous amount of hard work and are deserving of this honor. I also think it’s great that we have a freshman, sophomore and junior in the ensembles, as it means the future is very bright for the band program here at TCCHS.”
