On January 21, the Tvelo Brewing Company, the first brewing company of Thomasville, will celebrate their grand opening with live music, food, and several of their unique Thomasville craft beers on tap.

JoAnne Maltese, the owner of Tvelo Brewing Company, said that the brewery, the first of its kind in the city, would boast 16 different taps after they were done brewing, bringing a broad range of different flavors and blends that were unique to Thomasville.

“We’re going to be the first brewery in Thomasville,” Maltese said. “We’ll have 16 taps when we’re done brewing all of our brews, ranging from every kind of beer you can think of. We’ll have something for everybody.”

Maurice Jackson, chief of operations, said that Tvelo Brewing Company had been in the works for close to a year now, with preparations coming up on their one year anniversary since they began at the beginning of 2022.

“January 1, we were celebrating New Years, and then construction, or rather, deconstruction, started January 2,” Jackson said. “An easy to way to keep track of how long we’ve been at it, we’re days away from coming up on one year, so, gosh, it’s exciting to be here at this point.”

The brewery, according to Maltese, should bring in crowds from around the state and Florida. Being on the Bricks, she said that she hoped to see a lot of the shopping traffic come support the brewery and enjoy what they have to offer.

“It should bring up a lot of the craft brewing people from around the state, Florida, up to taste our beers,” Maltese said. “There’s quite a following in craft beers, also, being on the Bricks in Thomasville, we hope to get a lot of the shopping traffic, as Hubs & Hops did at this previous location.”

The brewery team said that the “velo” of their name meant “bicycle” in French, with the “T” at the beginning standing for Thomasville, with Jackson adding that locals have expressed gratitude for now having a unique brewery to claim as their own and take pride in.

“It’s brought about a lot of gratitude,” Jackson said. “A lot of people are thankful, they said this is something that Thomasville has been needing, let alone wanting, so a lot of people are very excited that they have it here and is something that they claim as their own, that Tvelo Brewery is Thomasville’s brewery.”

Maltese said Tvelo Brewing Company has a close relationship with Hubs & Hops owner Roger Hawkes, having been a long collaborator with Maltese and the brewery’s team.

Additionally, Maltese said that Jon Nash, their brewmaster, was spearheading their large selection of craft beers, with Jackson adding that they already imperial stout and pilsner on tap right now.

“Already on tap, we have an imperial stout,” Jackson said. “We have a brown ale that we keg next, we’re saving IPAs and sours, which are more popular, as we get closer to the grand opening day, and they’ll be the freshest beer that we have. There’s a pilsner on tap right now and an amber ale, so we’ll definitely run for the full gambit, the spectrum of craft beers.”

Jackson went onto say that the opening of the brewery was an opportunity to give Thomasville locals another place to call their own.

“It’s just an opportunity to serve the community and bring about another place in that the community can call it’s own,” Jackson said.

Maltese said Tvelo will be a local hub that people could hang out at in downtown Thomasville.

“A place for people to hang out downtown,” she said. “A local hub.”

Maltese said that additional information on Tvelo Brewing Company’s soft opening dates and times can be found on their social media. The company is located at 227 W. Jackson St.
