BOSTON- Rhealynn Mills was recently diagnosed with an Osteosarcoma and underwent an amputation on her right leg. As just a kid, though, she’s already learned no one fights alone.

Her community of Boston put on A Day for Rhea this past Sunday to raise money to benefit the Mills family during their travels to Atlanta for Rhea’s appointments and chemo-therapy.

The event was hosted at Watt Park by Logan Smith with Besties and Ashlund Edwards with the Silo.

For Smith, the event was a personal one, as Mills’ grandmother is his mom’s best friend, and they’ve long been in their camping group.

“They are a huge part of the softball and baseball families around here, so we wanted to do something that was family-friendly,” Smith explained about a Day for Rhea.

The activities included bounce houses, donated by Fun Time Bounce House, a petting zoo with small animals donated by Fun Size Farms, LLC and face painting sponsored by The Silo.

While Rhea was unable to attend due to her third round of chemo, her mom, Revana and brother, Kale were in attendance and reportedly overwhelmed with joy and felt a lot of love from their small community.

One of many kind gestures during the day, was made by Preston Sumner.

During A Day for Rhea, a 50/50 raffle was held. When it came time to announce the winner and Sumner’s name was announced, he decided he wanted to donate his half of $390 back to Rhea and her family, giving the family a total of $780 in just raffle money to put toward medical expenses.

“To be such a young kid and give his half back to Rhea, I just thought that was huge,” Smith said.

While Rhea and her father, Trey were not in attendance, he saw the many acts of generosity throughout the day and posted a response on Facebook.

“Guys we do not know how to thank you enough,” he wrote. “We have been overwhelmed with the support and generosity of our community. The support has stretched far and wide… I want to personally thank every business, child, parent, friend, neighbor and all the ones that I don’t know for what you have done. We love you all dearly.”

In total, $7,661 was raised for Rhea’s cause.

“It definitely surpassed what we thought we could do,” Smith said.

However, Smith said they aren’t done yet.

Besties, along with the Silo and Boston Cafe will be placing out donation buckets indefinitely in order to continuously provide monetary support for the Mills family.

While Smith said he has not spoken with Rhea directly, he has heard that she is doing very well and is in great spirits, despite the circumstances.

“She’s making the best of it and will hopefully be getting a prosthetic in the New Year,” he said.

Smith did remind everyone that a public donation account is also available at Thomasville National Bank for those who weren’t able to make a Day for Rhea.

He also thanked Edwards, along with all others who donated their time and efforts to helping him make a Day for Rhea a success.
