On Monday, Chris West, a Republican candidate for U.S. Representative, went to vote at the Thomas County Elections and Registration.
After voting, West said that the right to vote was fundamental to being American, one that was granted by the sacrifice of patriots and forefathers.
“Our right to vote is fundamental to being an American,” he said. “It’s a part of something that’s been paved with the blood of our patriots and forefathers.”
A right, West continued, that is also an important responsibility as the economy continues to put businesses and families into dire positions.
“It’s an important responsibility that we all have as Americans and increasingly so, in today, as you look and see when we have an economy that really is putting businesses and families in a dire position,” West said. “High food, fuel, fertilizer prices, inflation, which is through the roof, crime that is putting our communities in a real difficult position and we need, we have to have leaders that are looking out for the best interest of the people they represent, not people in Washington D.C.”
According to West, based on what he has heard, the economy is the most important thing to the people of his district, with rising gas and grocery prices putting a strain on the people he hopes to represent.
“Right now, from the people that I’m hearing from this district, the economy is number one on their mind,” he said. “Their grocery bills are going up, their gas prices are going up, and their money is just worthless because everything is costing so much, which is due to the wasteful spending that’s been coming out of Washington.”
West said that the people of the Georgia’s 2nd congressional district are looking for a change and a fresh perspective that looks out for them and their interests.
“From what I’ve heard people all across this district, they are looking for a change and they are looking for somebody with a fresh perspective that’s gonna look out for the interests of the people in this district,” West said.
