Kizzy relaxes in the office with Jeanette Dixon.

If you visit the headquarters of S&L Integrated Systems in Thomasville you may be greeted at the doors by one of its employees and possibly a happy dog.

The Midway Road office has enthusiastically endorsed the merits of bringing your dog to work.

Amelia Faucher, marketing manager, said the company always had a dog-friendly atmosphere, so when she was tasked with boosting the company’s social media platform, she decided it was a good idea to socialize the company’s “bring your dog to work” policy with the outside world.

It also worked as a morale builder for the office.

Now on any given work day you’ll see one or more dogs roaming the hallways visiting employees offices freely.

“It’s so much fun to have them walking around. They just love to be petted,” said Faucher.

Employee Jeanette Dixon, who also is a board member of Red Road Rescue, a non-profit dog rescue service, brings Kizzy to the office whenever she can.

“Kizzy is a pleasure to bring to my office. She loves her crate, watches me work, but also enjoys the other dogs walking in my office. It’s like being home with her.”

Kizzy is a foster pet and may on occasion occupy the office with Prince who is owned by Josh Sharp, the company’s chief financial officer.

For a break during lunch employees have play time with toys in the office and sometimes take the dogs outside or play with them in the company’s break room. “The dogs make new friends, I think it’s good for everyone. It makes me happy, it’s a real relaxer, “said Faucher.

According to the National Take Your Dog To Work Day organization’s website, it has been shown that “bringing your dog to work can improve morale, performance and an overall sense of happiness to the workforce.”

Dixon agrees. “I think it’s a real boost to the company and your personal wellbeing. In my case, it so gratifying to see Kizzy, my foster dog, so peaceful in the office. I’m not worried that she’s lonely at home in a crate with no stimulation.”

Each year the National Take Your Dog To Work Day marks its official observance on June 21. On that day S&L Integrated Systems will have as many as eight dogs on the premises, greeting employees in the offices, or just sitting at their owner’s feet.

Faucher brings her own rescue dog to work. Seamus, a rambunctious two-year old, enjoys the social activity.

“It’s a mental health boost for us and our dogs. It’s nice to have your dog love on you during the day.”
