Wonderful and scary news

We find many things important in life. They include family, friends, education, hard work, money, and many other things. But there is something far more important than anything else on earth. In fact, there is one thing each person should do that is the single most important thing he can ever do while living. And that is taking care of the destiny of his soul.
What could possibly compare with this in importance? And just how does one determine where his immortal soul will go to spend eternity after death? The answer is to simply believe in Jesus Christ and call on Him, ask Him to save you. Christ said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me” (John 14:6). The enemy of mankind, Satan, has blinded our society into believing there are many roads to heaven. There are not. This is a devil’s lie. Christ is the absolute only way to heaven. And the fact that salvation is free and simple is the most wonderful news I’ve ever heard.
The chief idol in our country is money or material wealth. But Jesus asked a most pertinent question in Mark 8:36, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” We hear a lot today about billionaires, but I really pity all of them. What will they tell God when they stand before Him for judgment?
Jesus Christ, Whom I serve, is the Son of God. As a part of the Trinity, He is God. The Apostle John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). God is holy and man is not. Man is actually sinful and rebellious against his Creator. Man deserved the punishment of hell from the very beginning, but God wondrously loved man enough to die for him on a cross at Calvary in a process called crucifixion.
God gives each man and woman many chances to be forgiven of every sin. The blood of Christ washes away all our sins, past, present, and even future ones. When we trust Christ we become God’s own children. So all each person needs to do is truly believe in Christ and call on the Him for salvation. It is really a simple process in spite of what some preachers would have you believe. It requires nothing. In fact there is nothing we can do to earn or buy salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it very clear in saying, “For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God. Not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Those who say we must “toe the line” or do this and don’t do that, are being heretical and sinfully trying to add to Scripture. I always point out the thief on the cross as a great example. He could not live a good life. He could not serve the Lord or even be baptized. He did the only thing required. He believed in Christ and called on Him for salvation.
The scary news is that we all will die if Jesus does not return first. And only God knows when each will die. But death ends all opportunity to be saved. So it is imperative to be saved now, this minute, while you have the opportunity. There must be millions in hell who planned to call on the Lord for salvation and never did. They didn’t know they would die when they did.
