Do you have religion?

Whenever you hear some say, “I’m not very religious” or “I’m not religious,” you have spotted either someone out of God’s will or someone who is an unbeliever. If you are a believer, a Christian, it is your duty to share the gospel with this person.

You will also hear derogatory comments, such as “He has got religion.” But there is a big difference in religion and Christianity. In fact, most theologians will agree that Christianity is not a religion at all. It is actually the “truth, the absolute truth, and nothing but the truth.”

Apologetics is the discipline of providing evidence for the truth of Christianity. Dr. William Lane Craig is one of the best to consult to assuage your doubts about the validity of the Christian faith. But the Bible does not really need our defense of it. It stands on its own merits. Every part, indeed every word, of it has been analyzed and studied for years and always found to be rock solid.

Intercessory prayer is the chief job of Christians. God created man to give Him glory and to engage in fellowship with Him. And though salvation and access to God is entirely free through belief in Christ, God does have expectations of His children (Christians). Intercessory prayer is the main expectation God has of us. And that’s because God loves everyone, even atheists and unbelievers. The Apostle Peter told us, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

So, to hear anyone say, “I’m not very religions” is your opportunity, and responsibility as a Christian, to share the gospel, the very thing that individual is in desperate need of. Simply tell him that you aren’t religious either. That will get his attention if he knows you are a Christian. Proceed to explain that Christianity is not a religion, but pure truth. Tell him how simple it is to “get right with God.” Tell him he must believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, Who came into the world to die for your sin and that of everyone who will believe in Him. Tell the one to whom you are speaking that he must believe and then repent or call on the name of the Lord. You may want to quote or read Romans 10:13 to him, where Paul clearly stated, “For whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

The one you are speaking with probably has heard the many devil’s lies about having to be good to go to heaven. He believes he will have to give up this and that and start doing this and that. Explain to him that he cannot possibly change himself, that only God can change us. And explain to him how simple it is to be saved, how free the ticket to heaven is. But do warn him that this life is his only opportunity to call on Christ for salvation. Remind him that he has no idea when his death and all opportunity to be saved will occur.
