Central softball smokes Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central’s softball team scorched Thomasville on Wednesday in the Lady Yellow Jackets’ season opener.

A 17-run second inning fueled the Lady Jackets to a 23-3 rout of the Lady Bulldogs in three innings.

Sarah Stewart paced Central’s offensive explosion with three hits, six RBIs and three runs in the leadoff position. Omiyah Blalock, Cloey O’Doniel, Laurel Fletcher and Abigail Singletary each added two hits for Central, which finished with 14 hits and capitalized on two errors and eight walks by Thomasville.

O’Doniel drove in four runs, while Singletary added three RBIs as well. Fletcher, Jaida Pinkins, Kaleigh Goodin and Rebecca Willis scored three runs each.

“Last night’s game was a great start to our season. Thomasville has a good team with strong players and staff. I was very proud of how our team came out with high energy, focus and played together as a team,” Central coach Robyn Trammell said. “I’m sure both teams were nervous, but I’m very proud of all my girls, and I’m excited about the upcoming season.”

Laney Mobley pitched three innings for the Lady Jackets, allowing three runs, four hits and eight strikeouts.

CeCe Myers tallied a hit and three RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs.
