- Len Robinson holds up an Atlanta Braves schedule.
The Atlanta Braves World Series trophy is coming to Thomasville and one radio personality in Thomasville is excited at the opportunity.
Len Robinson, the owner of WPAX, has been covering the Atlanta Braves since he arrived at the station in 1985, continuing the love the previous owners of the station had for the team and sport.
“I’ve been a big Braves baseball fan all my life,” Robinson said, “and, certainly, I wanted to continue that and I have continually since then, so, we’ve been broadcasting the Braves here at WPAX for well over 40 years.”
Baseball, according to Robinson, was practically made for radio. It only took one good announcer you to take you the ballgame and out to the crowds.
“If there was ever a sport built for radio, it’s baseball,” he said. “‘Cause somebody that’s a good announcer on that game can have you right there, right there.”
This isn’t the first time the Atlanta Braves have one a world series trophy, but according to Robinson, he doesn’t remember such a great opportunity for local fans cropping up in the early 90s like it has today.
“I don’t remember the trophy coming to Thomasville at that time but I, I’m excited about it being here,” he said. “I think it’s super good that the Braves fans in this area have the opportunity to at least go see it in person.”
Unfortunately, Robinson said that he’d be unable to personally go see the trophy himself, having other responsibilities he has to attend to, but is excited for the Braves this season.
“I’m excited about the Braves this season, you know, we’re two games out of first place, so, second half is our forte,” he said.
The Atlanta Braves World Series trophy will be in Thomasville from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Ritz Amphitheater.
