County fire crews quickly put out Meigs blaze

MEIGS — A fire broke out in the night Monday at a small house on East Marshall Street in Meigs.

According to Bob Duthoy, assistant fire chief of the Thomas County Fire Department, the department responded to the fire and was on the scene within seven minutes. The team on scene included five fire trucks, a tanker truck and an ambulance.

They were on scene for an hour.

Duthoy said that the fire was small and started in the kitchen. A pot on the stove was identified as the origin of the fire. 

“It was extinguished quickly,” he said. 

Fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house was reported, but no one involved in the fire was injured. 

No other issues or hazards were reported by the fire department.
