Playoff roads end for Central, Thomasville soccer teams

Taylor Poland scored twice and the Fannin County Lady Rebels downed Thomasville 4-1 Wednesday in the Class AA state soccer playoffs. 

Fannin County (16-1) advances to meet Pace Academy. Thomasville’s season ends at 8-7.

The Coosa Eagles outlasted the Thomasville boys soccer 10-9 in a round of penalty kicks, taking a 4-3 win Thursday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. 

The Eagles and Bulldogs finished regulation tied 2-2, and each team got a goal in the overtime period, forcing the shootout. 

Coosa (14-3-1) will travel to Union County in the third round of the Class AA state boys playoffs. 

Thomasville’s season ends at 16-2-1. 

Heritage-Ringgold got goals from five different players and ended the Thomas County Central’s girls run in the Class AAAA state playoffs with a 5-0 win.

The Lady Generals, 14-1-1, will face North Oconee in the third round. Central’s season ends with a 12-4-2 mark.

Nicolas Cuna scored two second-half goals, leading the Northwest Whitfield Bruins to a 2-1 win over the Thomas County Central boys Thursday in the Class AAAA state playoffs. 

The Bruins, now 13-5-1, will travel to North Oconee for a third-round matchup. Central ended its season at 14-5-1.
