THOMASVILLE – The confirmed tornado that impacted Thomasville on Wednesday night devastated Thomas University’s (TU) Varnedoe Stadium.
TU Athletic Director Rick Pearce confirmed that nearly all the fencing surrounded the baseball field was destroyed.

“We put in a brand new fence, put in a lot of nice stuff to fix up the field. Coaches did a great job fixing up the field the last few years. It’s all down now,” Pearce said. “The cement block fences that are around it are all knocked down. It definitely was a tornado that came through there, for sure.”
TU has two more home series left on this year’s schedule. One includes a series with Ave Maria University this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader at Valdosta State University on Friday and then the third game on Saturday at Thomas County Central.
“The people helping us out are tremendous,” Pearce said. “Valdosta State was really nice to let us play there tomorrow. Central has been good to our program. They’ve let us use their cages before. I think we used their field once in the fall because we didn’t have that fence up yet.”
The location for TU’s final home series with Warner University on April 22-23 has yet to be determined.
Pearce said TU will work closely with the city of Thomasville to put the stadium back together.
