COVID-19 cases rate starting to wane

As of Monday, more than 22,340 Thomas County residents, 50% of the population, have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the state Department of Public Health. More than 55,390 doses of vaccine have been administered to Thomas County residents, according to the state Department of Public Health. In all, 40% of Thomas County residents have received full vaccination and an additional dose. 

Grady County has had more than 26,650 vaccines administered, with more than 10,970 people, 44% of the population, being fully vaccinated. According to the state DPH, 37% of Grady County residents are fully vaccinated and have received an additional dose. 

The state Department of Public Health reports there have been 8,771 COVID-19 positive tests in Thomas County, with 175 deaths. There also have been 605 people hospitalized because of the novel coronavirus since the inception of the outbreak. 

Thomas County has recorded 111 new cases in the last two weeks, according to the state DPH. 

The state DPH has recorded 3,649 COVID-19 cases in Grady County, with 78 deaths and 263 hospitalizations attributed to the virus. The county has added 69 new cases in the last two weeks.

Statewide, there have been more than 1.9 million confirmed positive tests for COVID-19, leading to 29,275 deaths and more than 106,700 hospitalizations.

More than 16.54 million people have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, with a rate of 12.7% for positive results. 

Statewide, there have been 28,261 new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks. 

The state has issued more than 14.3 million vaccinations, and 55% of all Georgia residents, more than 5.7 million people, have been fully vaccinated.

Thomasville City Schools reported that as of February 18, there was one COVID-19 positive students out of 2,788 enrolled. None of the 376 employees was listed as COVID-19 positive. 

Grady County Schools reported having three students with a positive COVID-19 test out of 4,44r total students as of February 4. Another 16 were quarantined for possible exposure. Four of the 638 school employees had a positive COVID-19 test and one was quarantined.

Thomas County Schools reported six COVID-19 positive students out of an enrollment of 5,738. The system also reported having four staff members out of 874 test positive for COVID-19.
