THOMASVILLE – A former Thomasville High quarterback and University of Georgia signal-caller is returning to his alma mater to coach with the defending national champion Bulldogs.
Mike Bobo, who graduated from UGA in 1997, will return to Athens as an offensive analyst.
It’s the second coaching stint for Bobo with the Bulldogs. He was the quarterbacks coach under former head coach Mark Richt from 2001-07 before transitioning to the offensive coordinator role from 2008-14.
Bobo held a couple of coaching positions in between his stints at UGA, including being the Colorado State head coach from 2015-2019. He later served as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator in 2020 and then as Auburn’s offensive coordinator last year.
Bobo and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart played together at UGA from 1997-98.
Bobo coached some of Georgia’s best quarterbacks in the last two decades, including Aaron Murray, Matthew Stafford and David Greene.
He’ll get a chance to coach Stetson Bennett, the former walk-on who guided UGA to a national championship win over Alabama. He recently declared his intent to return to UGA next season. He’ll battle freshman Brock Vandagriff, redshirt freshman Carson Beck and incoming freshman Gunner Stockton for the starting job.
