Thomas County COVID-19 vaccination totals continue to add up slowly

As of Monday, more than 21,540 Thomas County residents, 48% of the population, have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the state Department of Public Health. More than 51,300 doses of vaccine have been administered to Thomas County residents, according to the state Department of Public Health. In all, 30% of Thomas County residents have received full vaccination and an additional dose.
Grady County has had more than 24,620 vaccines administered, with more than 10,570 people, 43% of the population, being fully vaccinated. According to the state DPH, 26% of Grady County residents are fully vaccinated and have received an additional dose.

The state Department of Public Health reports there have been 6,097 COVID-19 positive tests in Thomas County, with 162 deaths. There also have been 550 people hospitalized because of the novel coronavirus since the inception of the outbreak.
Thomas County has recorded 26 new cases in the last two weeks, according to the state DPH.
The state DPH has recorded 2,446 COVID-19 cases in Grady County, with 66 deaths and 243 hospitalizations attributed to the virus. The county has added 12 new cases in the last two weeks.
Statewide, there have been more than 1.3 million confirmed positive tests for COVID-19, leading to 26,120 deaths and more than 91,880 hospitalizations.
More than 13.6 million people have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, with a rate of 9.8% for positive results.
Statewide, there have been 23,030 new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks.

The state has issued more than 13 million vaccinations, and 52% of all Georgia residents, more than 5.46 million people, have been fully vaccinated.
Thomasville City Schools reported that as of December 17, there was one COVID-19 positive students out of 2,788 enrolled. There were 71 students identified as contacts due to school exposure, and none identified as a contact due to exposure outside of school. One out of the 376 employees was listed as COVID-19 positive. Two employees were identified as contacts due to school exposure and one has been identified as a contact from outside exposure.
Grady County Schools reported having one student with a positive COVID-19 test out of 4,470 total students as of December 17. Another 10 were quarantined for possible exposure. One of the 638 school employees had a positive COVID-19 test and one was quarantined.
