THOMASVILLE — A man was arrested Sunday after attempting to set himself on fire, according to a police report.
Officers responded to a North Boulevard address after receiving a call from a man who was “threatening to light himself on fire, was going to kill himself, light a truck on fire and that he had been drinking,” according to a police incident report.
Police found the man in the middle of the street setting his clothes on fire.
The suspect was reported drunk and not cooperating with authorities after they stopped his suicide attempt.
While trying to detain the suspect, the police report stated that the man was reaching for an officer’s gear and still attempting to light himself on fire.
Once detained, EMS arrived on the scene to treat injuries that the suspect received when officers put him on the ground to arrest him.
After being cleared for transport, the suspect continued to make threats of lighting himself of fire and spit on officers.
This is not the suspect’s first encounter with police as the police report stated the suspect has tried to light himself on fire in the past and even lit himself on fire while in the back of a patrol car in another incident.
The man is charged with endangering lawful pursuits of another and public drunk.
