Chamber selling tickets for 20/20 Raffle
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber is currently selling tickets for their annual 20 Guns in 20 Days Raffle. Tickets are $20 each with only 1,000 tickets being sold before the raffle begins on Dec. 1. Each ticket gives the holder multiple chances to win one of twenty firearms to be given away each day between December 1-20. Tickets are currently on sale at the Chamber, 2nd Amendment Outfitters in Whigham, First National Bank, United National Bank and also at www.cairochamber.com
Autumn StoryWalk open at Roddenbery Memorial Library
StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. Beginning at the front of the Grady Room, please stroll around the library and enjoy reading each page and follow the path directed to the next page in the story. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, formerly of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
Veterans invited to complimentary breakfast
All local veterans are invited to enjoy a complimentary breakfast in honor of Veterans Day this Friday, November 12 from 6 to 8 a.m. at the Pickle Patch Deli in Cairo. The breakfast is provided courtesy of United National Bank for the devotion and sacrifice of all the men and women who have served our country.
Benefit planned for Kim Gilliard
There will be a benefit chicken pilau to be held for Kim Gilliard on Nov. 11 from 3-6 p.m. at the Cairo State Farmers Market. Gilliard has been battling colon cancer and out of work for 10 months. Tickets are $10 per plate and may be purchased by contacting Sylvie Ferguson at United National Bank in Cairo.
Christmas parade is Dec. 2
The Cairo Christmas Parade will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2 starting at 7 p.m. with this year’s theme being “Christmas in Grady Land,” which is a variation on the popular children’s board game, Candyland. If you would like to have an entry in this year’s parade, call the chamber of commerce at 377-3663.
Grady County Memorial Log available at library
The Grady County Georgia Memorial Log is a public accessible registry of the names and service information of Grady County citizens who have performed honorable active service in the United States military. Persons enrolled in the log may be living or deceased, active or veteran. If you or a loved one is not currently enrolled, please contact the library for more information. The website is gradymilitary.net. Stop by the library to see the Veterans Day display of Grady County women who served in the military.
Flu shots available at health department
The Grady County Health Department has received shipments of the flu vaccine for the coming flu season and are recommending that local citizens receive them as soon as possible. Getting the flu shot before the end of October gives it a chance to reach full effectiveness before flu season reaches its full peak. The cost per dose is $30 but the Health Department will file insurance and most patients will not incur any out-of-pocket expense. For more information, contact the Grady County Health Department.
Storytime back at library on a New Day
The Roddenbery Memorial Library has announce that their popular Children’s Storytime is starting back on a new day! Join them every Thursday at 11 a.m. for a story followed by a cool craft you can take home. Children’s Storytime is for children ages 3-5.
Grady EMC seeking to verify addresses for refund checks
If you were a member of Grady EMC during the years of 1955-1972, you may be eligible for a Capital Credit refund check. The local utility co-op is seeking past members who are no longer Grady EMC members or have moved to different addresses in order to send notices for the refunds and verify current mailing addresses. All former members or members who have moved to a new address should be on the lookout for a postcard from Grady EMC or for more information, call 377-4182.
