Council seats decided in Boston, Meigs, Pavo

Elections also were held in Boston, Meigs and Pavo on Tuesday.

Danny Groover faced no opposition in his bid for re-election as Boston mayor. Lawanda Jackson also had no opposition to return to the Boston City Council Post 1 seat.

For Post 2, Lavone Shiver outpolled Mitchel Brown 136-84. Richard Reynolds defeated David F. Lauer 125-101 for Post 5.

The three top vote-getters for the Meigs City Council seats were Catherine McNeil, Edward Eason and Lizzie Battle. McNeil had 37 votes, Eason received 35 and Battle got 24. Eason and Battle are incumbents. Fellow incumbent Dorothy Wimes got 20 votes. 

The top three in the election all won seats. 

Most Popular

Five people ran for the three Pavo City Council seats. The three top vote-getters were Cleveland Shy, Larry L. Williams and Joey Kae Dean. Shy and Williams each received 51 votes and Dean got 48. All three were incumbents. 

Challengers Donna M. Hickman and Patricia W. Williams got 46 and 31 votes, respectively.

Turnout was more than 30% in Boston, 19% in Pavo and just under 10% in Meigs.
