THOMASVILLE – Brookwood’s quest to repeat as GISA Region 3-AAA champions is still alive after last Friday night’s 29-22 win over Tiftarea. The Warriors can take another step towards region supremacy this Friday when they host the Valwood Valiants.

“It’s just so interesting, we’ve had seven games this year where it was anybody’s game literally with two or three minutes left to go in the game,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “These last three we’ve figured out a way to make those plays. It’s all coming at the right time, for sure.”

Brookwood has won three in a row, which followed a six-game losing streak to start the season. The win over the Panthers may have been the Warriors’ most improbable and impressive of the season. Brookwood trailed 14-0 at halftime to a team during its homecoming. But the Warriors responded with four touchdowns in the second half. The defense forced a couple of turnovers. Special teams were solid, as Rodge Walker connected on a pair of 45-yard punts.

“We dug ourselves a hole, which was really a product of Tiftarea playing really well and us playing very poorly,” Boggs said. “I think the positive from that was I don’t think anybody panicked. We certainly had some execution issues. Even in a couple of cases, we had a little bit of effort issues in the first half. I can’t say enough about how we responded in the second half. Again, all three phases in the second half really played well.”

The Warriors are peaking at the right time for the second straight season. They won six straight to end last year heading into the playoffs. They can win their fourth straight on Friday night.

“Winning does breed confidence. I think we’re starting to put some wins together right here. I think we’re certainly becoming a more confident group,” Boggs said. “No doubt about winning breeding confidence and our confidence growing, there’s a lot to that. You start to see the return on the investment. You go back to work on Monday. You work a little harder than you did last Monday. It all builds off one another. I’m excited about the direction we’re going.”
