Downtown trick or treating returns

THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville Downtown Merchants Alliance is hosting the second annual Downtown Trick or Treat event on October 30.
Merchants will start handing out candy between 3-8 p.m.
Rhonda Foster, co-owner of Liam’s Restaurant, Lounge & Cheese Shop, said she was shocked about last year’s turnout when the idea to host trick or treating downtown first emerged, which is why it had to return.
“Last year it kind of formed out of a necessity,” she said. “We got several thousands of people and kids out trick or treating.”
This year, Foster is hoping to see a bigger crowd of trick or treaters as the event continues to grow.
“We’re hoping that the word got out and more kids will come. It’s a goodwill effort on our part, she said. “We’re all happy to do it and just share some fun and success we’re having in Downtown Thomasville.”
Farmer’s Daughter Vineyards Tasting Room, Sweet Cacao Chocolates, Sweet Grass Dairy, Relish, and Imagination Emporium are just some out of the 50 merchants that will be participating in this year’s event.
Just like last year, shop owners will be stationed outside to ensure social distancing.
Foster added that the candy will also be pre-packaged, and hand sanitizer will be available.
“You’re talking about a holiday where people are already outside wearing masks anyway — how more safe could it be,” she said.
As the spooky fun creeps up on eager trick or treaters, Foster said the downtown trick or treating event will be the perfect way to spend Halloween.
“We want kids to be able to get out and have fun,” she said.
