THOMASVILLE — The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a Monday morning car crash that resulted in a fatality.

Witnesses saw the vehicle traveling on South Madison Street when it abruptly hit a telephone pole and made several flips before finally coming to a stop  

“I heard the impact, and I ran to the window and just saw it in midair flipping, and it flipped several times before it landed,” Vivian Hamilton, a Thomasville resident, said. 

Brad Hart, a Flowers Food employee, said the impact from the accident sounded like a cannon as he witnessed the whole incident while on his break. 

“I saw him come out the vehicle. I ran down there, and he was just lying face down bleeding out of his mouth,” he said. “He was airborne twice.”

Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander, said witnesses also saw the vehicle speeding through the area before crashing into the telephone pole.  

“For what reasons, we don’t know right now,” Knifer said.” What we know right now is that there was only one person in the vehicle. He was ejected during the crash,” he said.

The victim was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:59 a.m. His name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

As a result of the crash, the victim was ejected from the car. 

A blood sample from the victim was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab. 

“I don’t know how long that could take,” Georgia State Patrol Trooper William Rineer said. 

Knifer said no one else was hurt in the crash.
