Marine Corps Band concert cancelled

The “President’s Own” United States Marine Band Tour, which had a performance scheduled for the Cairo Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m., has been canceled due to COVID-19 and Delta variant concerns.

Golf tournament Thursday

The annual Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament will be held this Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Tired Creek Golf Course in Cairo. The four-man scramble begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and all proceeds benefit the local club. All area golfers are invited to come out and enjoy and afternoon of golf and good fellowship. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m.

Cairo First Baptist to host Priscilla Shirer simulcast Saturday

Cairo First Baptist Church is hosting the Going Beyond Simulcast featuring Priscilla Shirer, a well-known author, speaker and founder of Going Beyond Ministries. All women in the community are invited to attend the simulcast which will be held in the church fellowship hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch provided. To make reservations, call 377-2235.

Group sponsors COVID vaccination clinic

A local group, Organizing for Grady County, will be sponsoring a COVID-19 Vaccination clinic on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Corinth Church, 216 3rd Street, SW in Cairo. The Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer vaccines will be provided at no charge. Walk-ups are welcome or you can register online at www.albanyvax.corersponse.org

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and Roddenbery Memorial Library is joining the American Library Association and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path in academic achievement and lifelong learning. You can get a free library card in person at the Roddenbery Library or on the library’s website, www.rmlibrary.org

Tickets on sale for Thomas University’s Casino Night

Thomas University, local alumni and Grady County businesses invite everyone to join together and help raise money for scholarships to benefit local students in our community during their annual ‘Casino Night: A Masquerade Dinner’ fundraising event to be held at the Grady Cultural Center on Saturday, Oct. 16. The event will feature a silent and live auction for several items including a weekend trip to Lake Seminole, a Goldman Kobler bracelet, a wood carved American flag, tickets to an FSU football game and more. Tickets for the event are $50 for individuals and $75 for couples and can be purchased through Oct. 1 from any member of the Planning Committee or at the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce, Cairo Chemical & Supply, Southern Promotions and Apparel, and online at thomasu.edu/tickets/casinonight.

Koyo to sponsor Poker Run in October

The third annual “Riding Miles to Support Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club” Poker Run will be sponsored by Koyo on Saturday, Oct. 2 with all proceeds to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club in our community. The event is open to all bikers in the area. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with run time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gatorade and water will be available along the route. The fee to ride is $15 for singles and $20 for doubles. Chicken Pilau plates will also be sold at Koyo from 1-3 p.m. for $8 per plate. To register, call 377-6650, ext. 1202 or ext. 1440.

Deadline to order commemorative bricks is Nov. 3

Cairo High School Band members are raising money to purchase uniforms and is currently selling engraved bricks that will be on permanent display as part of their fundraiser. The bricks are available in various sizes and can be engraved with both lettering and clipart. The deadline to order the bricks is Nov. 3.
