Central softball collects three wins in weekend tourney

The Thomas County Central softball team went 3-1 in a weekend tournament, going 1-1 against ranked teams from higher classifications.
The lone setback was a 5-1 loss to Harrison. The Lady Hoyas are ranked No. 10 in Class 7A.
Central claimed wins over East Paulding, the No. 6 team in Class 6A, Campbell and Class 7A power Walton.
Emi Hobbs’ single in the bottom of the seventh inning brought in the winning run as Central downed Walton 3-2.
The Lady Raiders led 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth before Cloey O’Doniel tied it with a two-run, two-out homer.
Kaylee Barrett got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Aly Morabito went the first 5 1/3, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
Sarah Stewart finished 2-for-3.
O’Doniel and Gabrial Miles were each 2-for-3 as the Lady Jackets opened the tournament with the loss to Harrison.
But they bounced back with a 13-10 win over Campbell, pounding out 12 hits, four for extra bases.
Hobbs went 4-for-4 with a double, Stewart went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and Miles homered and drove in three runs. Olivia McIntyre was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Maddi Gossett went 2-for-4.
Barrett struck out five and gave up one earned run in a 4-2 win over East Paulding on Saturday. Hobbs, who was 2-for-3, and Miles, each hit solo homers, and Gossett went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Barrett also doubled and SJ Whigham was 2-for-3.
