All three Thomasville council seats to be challenged in election

THOMASVILLE — All three Thomasville City Council seats up for election will be contested while none of the three Thomasville City Schools Board of Education will be contested in the November general election.
Former city council member Terry Scott has qualified to run against District 1, Post 2 incumbent Greg Hobbs. Hobbs also serves as mayor, a position chosen by vote of sitting council members.
Incumbent David Hufstetler has qualified to run for his District 2, Post 2 seat, and he will be challenged by businessman Scott Chastain.
Todd Mobley, the incumbent at-large city council member, qualified to run for his seat and he will face Micah Bobby Graham in the November general election.
Three seats also are up on the city school board and two incumbents chose to run. Dr. Hazel Jones and Corey Sumner will serve again for their respective districts. Dr. Jones represents District 1 and Sumner represents District 2.
Russell Beckham also qualified to run for one of the two District 2 posts.
Anyone wishing to vote in the election must register no later than Tuesday, October 4, 2021 in order to be eligible to vote. Early voting will take pace October 12-26 at the Thomas County Elections and Registration Office at 1402 East Jackson St., Thomasville.
The general election will be held Tuesday, November 2, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Harper Elementary School gymnasium, the Thomas County Public Library (for the Scott and Jerger precincts), the Douglass Resource Center cafeteria, the Thomasville Resource Center and the Remingtion Fire Station.
