THOMASVILLE — A body was discovered in a Grady County pond this morning by law enforcement.
At around 8:11 a.m., Grady County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a body floating in a pond located on 222 Singletary Road.
“We got out there and discovered a body floating in the pond and noticed there were vehicle tracks going into the pond, but no vehicle was seen at the time,” said Capt. Daniel Singletary, Grady County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator.
A silver SUV was later recovered from the pond by the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office dive team, Georgia State Patrol, and the state Department of Natural Resources.
The body was identified as a 22-year-old Black male. The official identity of the victim will not be released until the family is notified.
Singletary said the body has been sent off to the crime lab to determine the cause of death.
There were no other bodies or persons found at the scene and the body recovered is assumed to be the only occupant of the recovered vehicle.
“We don’t know what caused the crash yet, so that’s why Georgia State Patrol was called in, to try to recreate that and try to determine what caused the crash,” Singletary said. “We’re hoping to get answers pretty quick.”
