GBI looking into Grady deputies’ fatal shooting

CAIRO — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a fatal shooting on Monday evening that involved Grady County Sheriff’s deputies.
According to the GBI, deputies were sent on Monday evening to an address in the 3000 block of Pine Park Road in Grady County.
The deputies encountered a man who the homeowner wanted to leave his property.
After trying unsuccessfully to get the man to leave, deputies attempted to arrest him. The man resisted arrest.
Deputies got one handcuff on him before he managed to get away.
The deputies also attempted to use pepper spray and Tasers, but they were ineffective.
The man got into the deputies’ car. The man drove the car in reverse while both deputies were standing near the open driver’s door.
The deputies fired their weapons at the man and continued trying to arrest him. He continued to resist.
The man then began to drive forward out of the yard. Additional deputies fired their weapons at the man.
He drove away and a short chase ensued.
Paramedics responded and the man was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed at the GBI crime lab.
The identification of the man is pending next of kin notification.
The GBI will conduct an investigation and turn it over to the South Georgia District Attorney’s Office for review.
