Man pleads guilty for July 2019 shooting

THOMASVILLE — The man arrested for a July 2019 shooting has accepted a plea deal during a two-day court trial that began on Monday morning.
Derek Davis, 30, will serve 10 years in prison and 30 years on probation in accordance to his plea deal.
The July 11, 2019 shooting occurred on Crystal Street at approximately 11 p.m.
Lt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander, said the victim of the shooting suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his arms, neck, and torso.
“The victim survived — unfortunately he sustained a substantial amount of injuries which has caused him to be wheelchair bound,” he said.
Knifer also said there is a co-defendant on the case who will be tried later on in the year.
Davis was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the shooting.
