THOMASVILLE — Police have identified and arrested three suspects involved in two robbery incidents reported around the Pinetree Boulevard area.
On July 5 at 5:30 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of Caitlien Lane at the Hampton Lake Apartments in reference to a reported armed robbery.
“A victim was walking from her vehicle to her residence when she was approached by two males who had masks. They demanded money, brandished a firearm and robbed her,“ said Lt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.
The suspects fled the scene but police recovered video surveillance from the area that helped them identify the suspects.
“While we were in the process of moving on the Monday incident, on Tuesday around the same time, we got called to the same area in reference to another robbery,” Knifer said. “Since we already had some intel from our investigations from the day before, we immediately responded to the area which we believed they would be residing,” Knifer said.
Jamarion Sharp, 17, and two other suspects under the age of 16 were arrested on July 6 at the scene of the second robbery. Police are unable to release any information on the other two suspects due to their age.
“We were able to apprehend one of them in a vehicle that was trying to leave the scene and we apprehended the other two at two different residences in the Dove Hill Circle subdivision,” Knifer said. “We had a very good idea that it was going to be the same individuals. We knew where they would be going to and officers got there very quickly and were able to apprehend them minutes within the crime.”
Knifer said the suspects are being prosecuted and tried as adults. All three suspects are charged with robbery, armed robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime.
With these incidents occurring within days of each other, Knifer said it’s important for residents to know what to do in these kinds of situations.
“If you feel that there’s something that doesn’t feel right, leave the area, call the police and report the suspicious activity,” he said. “Just be diligent and aware of your surroundings. Don’t become complacent, no matter what day or time it is. I don’t want people to run around being scared, but at the same time, just be aware of your surroundings.”
