Brinley Singletary is on the edge of her seat as she watches the beautiful butterfly emerge.

THOMASVILLE — Brookwood School’s kindergarten classes are studying the life cycle of living creatures. 

Mrs. Cuevas’ class partnered with a local farm to study the life cycle of chickens. Eggs filled an incubator and each day students learned more about the development of the baby chicks. Students had a front row seat to watch the chicks hatch. 

When classes end for summer and the chicks mature, they will make their way to the farm to begin their work laying eggs.

Mrs. Power’s kindergarten class watched the process of a caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly. As the caterpillars spun its cocoon, students watched with awe as the butterfly later emerged. Once the butterflies are ready to spread their wings, they will be released into the butterfly garden on the Lower School playground for all to see!

Students also followed the lifecycle of the bullfrog. Tadpoles were donated from an area pond, and students observe their growth daily. As they mature into bullfrogs, the frogs will be released back into their pond to support the local ecosystem.
