THOMASVILLE — An error may have cost the Thomasville Bulldogs baseball team more than an out.

It also has knocked them out of the Class AA state baseball playoffs.

Thomasville beat Callaway 6-0 Thursday in their third game of their quarterfinal series but a Bulldogs pitcher exceeded his pitch limit in the series, school officials confirmed Saturday.

The extra pitches have led to Thomasville forfeiting its win over the Cavaliers.

“The Thomasville City Schools and Thomasville High School leadership regret this unfortunate event,” athletic director Chris Merritt said, “and recognize that it does not reflect the hard work and passion these student athletes have put into this season.”

The Georgia High School Association has updated its bracket to show Callaway advancing to meet Jeff Davis in the state semifinals.
