Brookwood golf had an impressive day as a team Monday as the Warriors won the region tournament at Valdosta Country Club, staving off tough competition from the host Valwood Valiants.
Brookwood’s team score of 290, keeping the top four scorers of five players, bested runner-up Valwood’s 298 from its top four scorers. Southland Academy finished in third place and Tiftarea Academy took fourth place.
JD Culbreth led the way for Brookwood with a 6-under 66 on the day. The eighth grader’s highlight was an eagle on a par-4. Culbreth’s day earned him low medalist for the pack of 20 golfers in competition.
All five Warriors shot 78 or lower, using impressive depth to beat the region rivals. This type of balanced attack and five strong scoring opportunities gives Brookwood a legitimate shot at next week’s GISA State Tournament.
Jack Boltja finished even-par for the day at 72, playing his best golf of the day on the back nine. Jay Sanders was plus-2 for the day at 74. Kat Cook and George Arline both shot plus-6 rounds of 78. Boltja and Sanders finished in the top five of the 20 golfers in competition to earn all-region honors, along with Culbreth.
The Warriors advance to next Monday’s GISA state tournament in Brunswick.
