Cairo takes two from Westover

Ethan Godwin’s run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning brought in Caison Faircloth with the go-ahead run, and the Cairo Syrupmakers opened their doubleheader sweep of Westover on Thursday with a 5-4 win.
Cairo, 13-3, took the second game 13-6.
Godwin finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Faircloth was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double and Christian Maige was 2-for-3 with a triple. Maige went the first 5 1/3 innings, striking out 12. Will Prince got the win with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four.
Maige went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs in the nightcap as Cairo rapped out 14 hits. JW Knight was 2-for-2 with a double, Max Windham was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Will Prince was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs and Faircloth finished 2-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs.
Ben Crosby got the win, going 5 1/3 innings while striking out seven.
Cairo visits North Florida Christian on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
