Library celebrates Library Lover’s Month
In celebration of Library Lovers Month, the Friends of the Library are giving away Amazon Gift Cards for $100, $50 and $25! Through the month of February, send the library an email to rml@rmlibrary.org or a letter letting us know all of the ways that you love the library and you could win! For all ages!
Residents to receive two bills for utilities, cable
Starting this week, the City of Cairo has announced that Cairo utility customers who subscribe to CNS Next cable, internet or phone services will begin received a monthly bill that is separate from their utility bill. The due dates for payments will remain the same and late fees, reconnect fees, etc. will remain unchanged. For more information, call 377-3653.
Tax forms available at the library
The Roddenbery Memorial Library has a variety of tax forms available for those who are in need of the forms to file their 2020 taxes. Forms can be picked up at the front desk.
Black History Month Learning packet available
The Roddenbery Memorial Library has Black History Month Learning Packets available in the children’s area of the library. The packets provide instructional plans for students of all ages.
Downtown Cairo has traveling art exhibit
The City of Cairo in partnership with the Thomasville Center for the Arts has set up a traveling art exhibition of large murals to downtown Cairo through March 14. Eight temporary murals will be put on display in Downtown Cairo as part of the TCA’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ public art display. Everyone is invited to come enjoy this exciting art on display around Downtown Cairo.
City to hold public hearing on zoning
The City of Cairo Planning Commission will have a public hearing on February 18 at 6 p.m. on the matter of whether to grant a variance from the zoning requirements for Zone R-1, Single family residence district. The meeting is open to the public.
COVID testing moves to Barber Park
New cases of COVID-19 have increased in Grady County over the last several weeks and in response to the growing demand for tests, the Grady County Health Department has decided to move their testing site to Barber Park. Beginning on February 5th, those wishing to get a free COVID test can come to Barber Park, located on Long Branch Road from 9 a.m. to noon. The free tests are given every Friday at this new site.
Trout Lily Preserve opening in February
The 2021 Bloom Season at the Wolf Creek Trout Lily Preserve is expected to open in February. A definitive opening date has not been announced yet as this will be determined based on the anticipated bloom. Volunteers are busy preparing the preserve to insure that all COVID-19 safety protocols are followed. Registration underway for spring sports
The Grady County Recreation Department has announced registration for spring sports, including baseball, girls fastpitch softball and co-ed tee ball. The fee for each sport is $20. For more information about the age control dates and to register, call the Rec Department at 377-8221.
