THOMASVILLE — A woman en route to medical treatment Monday told police she was shot during a barrage of gunfire at Villa North apartments.
A few minutes earlier, at 1:30 p.m., 911 was notified about gunfire at the 510 Old Albany Road subsidized housing complex.
“They advised their apartment had been shot up,” said Sgt. Scott Newberry, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division assistant commander.
The injured woman, while being transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital by private vehicle, said she was shot as she drove into the housing complex to pick up her nephew.
“As she pulled up into the apartments, someone started shooting,” Newberry said.
A bullet went through the woman’s driver side window and entered the victim’s upper arm and shoulder. She was admitted to Archbold for treatment.
Multiple people were shooting, Newberry said, adding that the 44-year-old victim was caught in the crossfire.
Newberry said multiple shell casings were found on the ground.
Gunfire was aimed at an apartment. Bullets entered the residence. No one inside was injured.
Police were seeking warrants Tuesday.
Newberry said detectives are attempting to locate witnesses to the incident.
“Anyone with information, please come forward,” he said.
