THOMASVILLE — Check-Mate Industries has delivered everything promised, the Thomasville Payroll Development Authority (PDA) executive director said.

PDA exec Shelley Zorn met many times with Check-Mate officials here and in the company’s New York then-home base before the industry opened a second plant in Thomasville in 2019.

“Check-Mate has been wonderful to work with and delivered everything promised,” she said.

As Check-Mate builds its work force, she said, the company is providing jobs that support families in this community.

“That’s what builds a community,” Zorn said.

The company takes a personal interest in employees. Zorn said Check-Mate provides financial literacy classes that teach employees the importance of saving money for retirement and managing a checking account.

“They saw a need there and immediately filled it. They care about their employees and want to build long-term relationships with employees,” Zorn said.

The company provides living wages and quality jobs by paying $13 to $15 an hour for unskilled workers and $26 to $30 an hour for skilled employees, she said.

In phases, Check-Mate is hiring more and more people.

“They have kept their word with each step of the way,” Zorn said.
