THOMASVILLE — Thomasville and Thomas County residents who have unwanted tires will be able to dispose of them at no charge during Winter Tire Amnesty Day on Dec. 11, 12 and 13.

Thomas County Solid Waste, Thomas County Code Enforcement, City of Thomasville Solid Waste and Keep Thomas County Beautiful will join forces in a team effort to help keep the community safe and beautiful, said Pat Smith, Thomas County code enforcement officer.

“It is important for waste tires to be disposed of properly,” Smith said. “Waste tires present environmental health and safety hazards. Rainwater accumulates in the tires, creating an ideal environment for mosquitoes, which are known to transmit diseases.”

Tires may be dropped off at the following Thomas County trash collection sites during days of the event only:

• Hansell Road

• Stewart Road

• Sunset Drive

• Ga. 188 and Ga. 202

• U.S 84 East at Boston

• Dillon Road

• Patten-Coolidge Road

• U.S. 19 North at Riverwood

In Thomasville, the drop-off site is behind the EMS/fire station off Remington Avenue at the recycling center.

Those participating will be required to unload their tires.

The event is only open to residents of Thomasville, unincorporated Thomas County and the county’s smaller municipalities.

“No commercial businesses or vendors may participate,” Smith said.

Only bicycle, car and light truck tires will be accepted. All tires must be de-rimmed.
