THOMASVILLE — Just when local trick-or-treaters thought there might be no Halloween treats this year, some downtown Thomasville merchants have saved the day.
Participating merchants will provide treats from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday — Halloween — in a safe-distancing, sanitary atmosphere.
The newly-formed Thomasville Downtown Merchants Alliance is sponsoring the event, said Rhonda Foster, co-owner of Liam’s Restaurant, Lounge & Cheese Shop.
Pre-wrapped candy will be given to trick-or-treaters, and hand sanitizer will be available. Foster said participants are urged to also use sanitizer provided in downtown dispensers.
The 30 to 40 participating merchants will distribute candy outside of businesses or just inside front doors.
Pointing out that trick-or-treaters will be wearing masks, Foster said, “You couldn’t ask for a safer holiday.”
