CAIRO — The Cairo Police Department has completely settled into its new 3rd Avenue headquarters just two weeks after moving in, City Manager Chris Addleton said this week.
Addleton said members of the department are happy with their new 12,000 square foot home.
“It looks really good and they’re really grateful for being in a real police station,” Addleton said at Monday’s meeting of the Cairo City Council.
Police Chief Giovannie Santos said the new facility is slowly starting to feel like home.
“Several of us still get turned around and walk past areas we were intending to go to, but we just laugh it off and back track,” he said.
Addleton met last month with a representative from Buckley & Associates, the building’s construction firm, to review a punch list finalizing the completion of the $3.7 million structure.
Overall, Santos said the department has done well settling into its new space.
“We are all extremely grateful for the opportunity to work out of this beautiful, new and state of the art facility,” he said. “The features that this facility provides, such as the secure arrest and booking area, the modern interview rooms and new computer equipment all serve to help us provide a better service to the community.”
No date is currently set for a possible open house event due to concerns over the current COVID-19 pandemic, though Santos said the department is looking to host such an event at some point in the future.
