Myrick, himself a Cairo resident, later died at Grady General Hospital.

The incident occurred Saturday at about 8:35 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 84 East and 9th Street NE.

Police suspect Myrick, who later failed a blood alcohol test, may have been under the influence at the time of the incident.

According to a police incident report, McCaskill told authorities Myrick stepped in front of her vehicle as he walked south across Highway 84. The collision did not occur at a crosswalk.

McCaskill told police she attempted to avoid Myrick was unable to. She also told police that Myrick was wearing dark clothing.

A blood alcohol test was administered to McCaskill, the results of which are still pending.
